"Hairspray" (2014)

Oakwood Summer Theatre has done more for me than occupy my summer (which is why I originally auditioned). It has helped me make new friends, realize a love for theatre and help me come out of my shy little shell just that much more. Being surrounded by people who were accepting of me the way I am and being on stage in front of adoring audiences gave me a confidence I think I was lacking.  Doing "Hairspray" and meeting all the wonderful people I met made me wish I had started doing Oakwood YEARS ago! This has been the greatest, most inspirational, and productive summer I've ever had. I plan to do Oakwood for many years to come” (Savannah Campbell).

“It’s important to me to have a local outlet for the arts. And OST is the best around when it comes to that: it has the legacy, the quality, and the accessibility. If you want to be in a show, they won’t kick you out or deny you, you just have to work for it once you’re in” (Ben Jones).

“My kids have gained so much confidence in themselves from being a part of Oakwood.  There are such wonderful people who are volunteering their time to put these shows together by building sets/scenery, putting together costumes, buying the music and scripts needed, teaching the songs and dancing for the shows… and so much more!  Each practice and each show gives all involved a fun, safe place to do what they love, whether is it directing or performing or just helping out in some other way” (Liz Parks).

---

"Oakwood is a community organization that anyone can be a part of.  Every show that is funded provides an outlet for youth and adults to become better people.  The social skills and discipline gained from this experience carry over into their community and professional lives” (Wilbert Frisko).

"I’ve been participating in Oakwood Summer Theatre for about 13 years give or take. And every year I can’t wait for summer to come! It’s hard to put into such small words something that’s been a part of your life for so long. The memories I have on stage, the experience I’ve gained, the friends I’ve made: they will last forever. It’s all thanks to this wonderful place. I think if you are wondering whether to audition or not, give Oakwood a shot. No matter what role you get, you will have an amazing time” (Mary Halter).

“Oakwood encourages and invites everyone, regardless of previous experience to become involved in something that might become a “once in a lifetime” experience., filled with both fun and learning. I have met some very talented and artistic people over the past 12 years, a few of whom have become very close, personal friends. The lessons learned both on the stage and behind the scenes are asomething that will be with me always” (Gina Abbott).

“I love working wish such a diverse group of people. Oakwood transcends age, race, economic status, education and experience. I’ve had the honor of working with so many wonderful people at Oakwood and each one has contributed as much or more to the program than they took from it. I’d like to thank the people of Salem County for supporting the work we do at Oakwood.

Without our patrons, our audiences, it would be impossible to put on quality performances year after year.

If you’ve participated in Oakwood, you know and if you haven’t, you should sign up and find out that Oakwood is a family. A family whose greater than the sum of its parts. A family who welcomes all and demands the best they have to offer/ A family that once you’ve joined, you are a part of forever” (Joe Clemente).

“For the past 28 seasons, I have had the opportunity of being a part of one of the finest entities in Salem County, Oakwood Summer Theatre, playing anything from an ensemble member in my first Oakwood Show, Godspell in 1985 to Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun as well as numerous things in between. I have had the privilege of working with some of the best directors, cast members and stage crew in the area. These people gave of their time and talents for no other reason than the love of theatre. It is hard to get dedication like that any place else. I can’t imagine spending my summer doing anything else other than being a part of Oakwood Summer Theatre” (Patty Fralinger).

“Oakwood was always something fun to do in the summer. I really enjoyed the comradery. It was an opportunity to get to know and admire the work of a lot of talented people. Not only the people on stage, but also the people backstage working on sets or costumes or in the pit band. It is really good to have a vibrant community theater that provides an outlet for all of this talent (Paul Kranz).”

"While we didn’t meet through Oakwood, we did meet while acting and Oakwood Summer Theatre provided a place for us to share a common interest. We even remember our daughter sleeping under the tables in the Salem High School cafeteria while we rehearsed. Oakwood has allowed us to make many friends over the years. We have enjoyed watching the next generation ,kids of the people we were involved with, become a part of Oakwood. Over the years, Oakwood Summer Theatre has built a reputation for using local talent. It really does provide an outlet for this talent and we wish everyone knew how good it really is” (Mack and Donna Lake).”
